Innovative Feature Film MUNCH makes US Debut Tues., Sept. 17th
Nordic focus streamer Viaplay features the Sep. 17th US debut of Munch, the innovative feature film on the untold journey of tormented genius Edvard Munch (painter of “The Scream”) told within a visually inventive framework. Trailer
A hit on the festival circuit, the creative biopic features a stylish and unique way to create a biopic. With its use of anachronisms and nonlinear narrative through various time periods, the film focuses on four pivotal chapters of iconic artist Edvard Munch’s life – ages 21, 29, 45 and 80 - written by four different screenwriters, and played by four different actors, without a focus on casting similar appearances or the same gender. From love to addiction, rejection to redemption, witness the untold journey of a tormented genius who defied convention and struggled to save his art from the clutches of history. Misunderstood by his peers, rejected by the art establishment, wracked with grief over the loss of his younger sister and tortured by addiction. This film takes the viewers through four important chapters of Munch’s life: the story of his first love; the controversy around one of his early exhibitions in Berlin; Munch’s admission to a psychiatric clinic, where he is forced to make the biggest decision of his life; and then finally, the artist’s battle at the end of his life to save his works from the Nazis.
The 100-minute film is in Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, English, and German, with English subtitles. Directed by Henrik M. Dahlsbakken, Munch stars Alfred Ekker Strande, Mattis Herman Nyquist, Ola G. Furuseth, and Anne Krigsvoll as Edvard Munch at different ages.
US Premiere Date: Tuesday, September 17
