Following its rave reviews, record-breaking Swedish debut, and ‘Best Comedy’ and ‘Best Actress’ nominations at the Swedish ‘Emmy’ equivalent (Kristallen), the charming, relatable dramedy All and Eva makes its highly anticipated US debut on Thursday, October 10 with all six episodes available to binge on the Viaplay streaming service. A hilariously fresh take on the comedy-drama genre features acclaimed Swedish actress Tuva Novotny (#1 Netflix movie The Abyss, Annihilation) in the compelling lead role as well as Kristallen ‘Best Supporting Role’ award winner Bengt Braskered (The Congregation) as her best friend James. The heartwarming, Fleabag-inspired ensemble series follows the ups and downs of Eva and her friends’ lives after she tracks down her sperm donor, and the possibility of her finding love in an extremely unexpected place.
For 40 years, Eva has remained steadfast in her disbelief in love. Instead, she believes that happiness lies in her love for herself and her friends. After deciding to get pregnant, Eva chooses an open donor who seems perfect. But the night before the big insemination, she can't help but think whether she made the right choice of donor. She decides to seek him out with a hidden agenda. He turns out to be normal, kind, nice and above all not a psychopath, so she goes through with it. But the donor, Mads (Joachim Fjelstrup – Ride Upon the Storm, The Dreamer, Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming Frankenstein), can't stop thinking about Eva and tracks her down. The only problem is that she is already pregnant, with his child, although he doesn’t know about it…
Featuring clever dialogue and witty banter, the delightful series delves into the complexities of love: Does it truly exist, and if so, what form does it take? The series explores honesty, prompting viewers to ponder when withholding the truth becomes too immoral. Additionally, it raises thought-provoking questions about companionship and fulfilment: Is love meant for everyone, or can one find a rewarding life in solitude? Moreover, the show examines the qualities individuals seek in potential partners, particularly when considering the prospect of having a child.
Created, written, and directed by Johanna Runevad, All and Eva also co-stars Sanna Sundqvist (Sthlm Requiem) as her soon-to-be married friend Josefine; and Sissela Kyle (The Simple Heist) as Eva’s mother Inger. The series was selected for Series Mania 2024 in its International Panorama competition.
Swedish and Danish with English subtitles (6x47’ episodes)
