Based on an idea by best friends and lead actors Alex Høgh Andersen (the international hit series Vikings, Darkness Those Who Kill) and Magnus Haugaard (Guilt), the new six-part comedy series Call Me Dad makes its North American debut on Tuesday, June 4 just in time for Father’s Day, with all six episodes available to binge (25 minutes each), on the Viaplay streaming service. Nominated for Best Comedy Series at Series Mania (2023), this uplifting, funny and inspiring look follows Emil's (Andersen) world turning upside down when he discovers his lifelong friend and business partner, Viktor (Haugaard), is dating his mom.

Imagine your best friend; a true friendship where you have known each other all your life. The kind where you do everything together – including go into business together and launch a new, sustainable catering company.

Then imagine that your best friend is dating your mother.

This becomes reality for the non-confrontational Emil when he finds out that his best friend, the confident Victor, has become lovers with his mother, Helle (Ellen Hillingsø). And from there, his whole world is turned upside down. Understandably, Emil has difficulty accepting this new reality, but to avoid conflict, he initially buries his feelings and accepts the incredibly awkward situation. As their relationship progresses, Emil feels increasingly uncomfortable, and his acceptance of the new couple is stretched to its limit. Additionally, Emil’s desperate girlfriend Carla files an unwarranted yet official work-environment complaint against the two friend’s catering company that puts the entire future of the company at risk. Emil is more alone than ever – with lack of attention and support from his mother, best friend, and girlfriend.

Call Me Dad is directed by Christian Dyekjær and developed and written by Søren Felbo.
