Recently aired on the BBC, the captivating, must-see Nordic noir End of Summer makes its highly anticipated North American debut on Tuesday, September 10 on the Viaplay streaming service. The six-part psychological thriller is based on the award-winning crime novel by former police officer Anders de la Motte and directed by Jens Jonsson (Young Wallander) and Henrik Georgsson (The Bridge). The stellar cast features Julia Ragnarsson (Midsommar, The Bridge) and Erik Enge (Tigers, Delete Me, The Sandhamn Murders) as they unravel the haunting secrets behind a long-lost disappearance.
In the Swedish summer of the late 90s, 14-year-old Vera's refusal to let her little brother Billy accompany her results in his inexplicable disappearance. The entire community engages in the search but to no avail and rumors and suspicions spread fast. A limited investigation follows but is eventually closed down. Grief and uncertainty slowly break down the boy’s family.
Twenty years later, Vera is leading a group grief therapy session in Stockholm. They are joined by a hauntingly familiar young man who tells the group about his fractured childhood memories. Vera is shaken by his eerily familiar story. Reluctantly she is forced to jeopardize the frail existence she has built and go back to her shattered family to uncover the truth about Billy’s fate. She begins asking questions about the past that no one wants her to ask: Is this young man really her long lost brother? What happened during that summer that never ended? The truth might destroy her world all over again.
End of Summer co-stars Simon J. Berger (Exit, Harry Hole), Torkel Petersson (Torpederna), Linus James Nilsson (Margrete: Queen of the North), Vilhelm Blomgren (Midsommar), and Lars Schilken (The Hunt for a Killer).
