INTERVIEW OPP: Lead Alexandra Rapaport
A new, riveting Nordic Noir with a fresh twist, VERONIKA, makes its highly anticipated North American debut on Tuesday, August 20 on the Viaplay streaming service. Nordic superstars Alexandra Rapaport (The Sandhamn Murders, Honour, No Time to Mourn) and Tobias Santelmann (The Fortress, Darkness: Those Who Kill, Exit, and Netflix’s upcoming Harry Hole series) headline the atmospheric, innovative psychological thriller created and scripted by Katja Juras and Anna Ströman Lindblom, writers from smash hit Nordic drama series No Time to Mourn/ Gåsmamman, and helmed by acclaimed director Jonas Alexander Arnby (War of the Worlds, Darkness: Those Who Kill). The eight-part series follows police officer Veronika Gren (Rapaport) as she deals with addiction, family troubles, a murder investigation, and now, haunting visions of unsolved crime victims. As she tries to figure out if these visions are real or just in her head, people around her start to question her sanity. Can Veronika trust what she sees, or will the shadows from her past consume her?
Veronika Gren, a police officer and mother of two, struggles with her complicated family life and a secret pill addiction. When she suddenly sees a dead boy standing in front of her, she thinks she’s lost her mind. Reluctantly Veronika is forced to accept that the boy isn’t an illusion. He’s connected to an ongoing murder investigation of two teenage girls, and he, as well as others, are here to stay until justice has been done. Veronika realizes that she must uncover the truth and soon discovers that the traces are leading her in a direction she would never have expected.
As her husband (Santelmann) grows more worried and her partner (Arvin Kananian, Triangle of Sadness) and captain question her fitness for duty, Veronika most not only convince herself, but she also needs to make the unbelievable, believable.
