Winner of Best Screenplay at Series Mania, the timely dystopian drama series, THE FORTRESS, makes its North American debut on Tuesday, July 16 on the Viaplay streaming service with all seven episodes available to binge. Featuring an all-star global cast led by Tobias Santelmann (Netflix’s Harry Hole, Exit), Russell Tovey (Feud, American Horror Story, Being Human, Years and Years), Selome Emnetu (Superhero Academy), and Eili Harboe (Succession’s final season, The Architect) and written and created by John Käre Raake and Linn Jeanethe Kyed, the gripping series puts current debates around migration policies and resource depletion at the heart of the action.

Set in an eerily familiar 2037, the THE FORTRESS is a chic isolationist parable thriller where Norway has chosen to sever all ties with the rest of the world. Surrounded by an enormous wall, the nation has become entirely self-sufficient. The fortunate inhabitants enjoy sheltered lives in a self-sufficient Nordic paradise. However, when a deadly pandemic breaks out, they soon realize the wall supposed to protect them is now holding them prisoner.

Russell Tovey portrays Charlie Oldman a refugee from the UK trying to migrate to Norway with his wife and baby. Tobias Santelmann portrays the Prime Minister of Norway. Eili Harboe portrays Ariel Mowinkel, the Prime Minister’s new speechwriter. Selome Emnetu is Esther Winter who is in charge of the strategic planning for the Norwegian Food Safety Authority.
