ELEVEN MAX VERSTAPPEN DOCUMENTARIES

DEBUT IN UNITED STATES AND UNITED KINGDOM

ON VIAPLAY THIS OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER

Interview Opp: Nick Hoedeman, the director of Anatomy of a Champion and Off the Beaten Track,

October 1, 2024 - Eleven Max Verstappen documentaries, including Off the Beaten Track and Master of the Track, make their United States and United Kingdom debut beginning Monday, October 14 on the Viaplay US and Viaplay UK streaming services.

Following the success of the widely praised and immensely popular exclusive series about Max Verstappen, Viaplay has now made these available for viewers in the US and UK, offering unique glimpses into the life of the three-time Formula 1 world champion.

Max Verstappen is a phenomenon in a sport already rich with legends. His dominant displays and exceptional mentality stand out in a remarkable way, even among the very best of the best. Now US and UK viewers will have an extraordinary opportunity to experience Max Verstappen as never before, with an intimate look at his passions beyond his life on the circuit.

Max Verstappen: Off the Beaten Track (3 episodes) and Max Verstappen: Master of the Track (22x2’) debut on Monday, October 14. Later this month, Viaplay US and UK add Max’s Machine (Oct. 21), F1 Talks (Oct. 21) and F1 2023: Champion Becoming a Legend (Oct. 28). Viaplay US and UK offer subscribers a chance to see thousands of hours of critically acclaimed Nordic and European series, films and documentaries not available anywhere else in the US and UK. In November, more Max Verstappen documentaries will be debuting, including Lion Unleashed, Seasons 1-3 (Nov. 18), Near Perfect (Nov. 25), Picture Perfect (Nov. 25) and Anatomy of a Champion (Nov. 25).

Max Verstappen said: “Partnering with Viaplay for all these series has been an incredible journey. These series show a side that often remains unseen during the moments on the Formula 1 circuit. It gives a glimpse of my life, my love for different forms of motorsport and the people who inspire me. I'm proud to collaborate with Viaplay in now also bringing this unique series to viewers in the United States and United Kingdom.”

The director of Anatomy of a Champion and Off the Beaten Track, Nick Hoedeman, has had the opportunity to follow Max Verstappen and the people around him closely for years. Hoedeman adds: “Mostly I did the filming myself. Max is not a fan of camera crews, so we looked at how to keep it as small and compact as possible, so that Max feels relaxed. I think that’s also the only way to really make it something different from what you’ve already seen with him.”

Hoedeman continued: “I think for a lot of people the insight you get into his life answers the question of why Max acts as he does. He is ‘what you see, is what you get’, something that is quite tricky for a film director. But it’s also really what it is. That does make him a very pure person and you’re going to see that very well. Everyone has been very open and honest.”

Viaplay US is available via Amazon’s Prime Video Channels, The Roku Channel, Xfinity, XUMO and Sling TV. More info: https://amazon.com/video/viaplayus

Viaplay UK is available via Prime Video Channels. More info: https://amazon.co.uk/channels/viaplayuk

Both Viaplay US and UK offer subscribers a chance to see thousands of hours of critically acclaimed Nordic and European series, films and documentaries not available anywhere else in the US and UK. Viaplay US and UK recently added sports documentaries on footballers Nicklas Bendtner, Cody Gakpo, and Erling Haaland, as well as young adult drama series Threesome, true crime docuseries Under the Radar – Secrets of a Swedish Serial Killer and In the Mind of a Criminal, Nordic Noir Darkness Those Who Kill S1-3, and Swedish crime drama Taelgia, with Pilou Asbaek’s contemporary drama series Secrets coming October 21 to the UK and 24 to the US.

After Norway’s Oscar Breakthrough: 6 Norwegian Series U.S. Audiences Shouldn’t Miss

With Norway newly in the global spotlight following its first Academy Award win for Sentimental Value, attention is turning to the country’s broader storytelling boom—particularly in television, where in the last few years, Norwegian creators have been quietly producing some of Europe’s most compelling and distinctive series.   Nordic-focused streamer Viaplay offers a slate of standout Norwegian titles that showcase the country’s range and ambition. Available to binge now:   The Fortress – “Smartly written… thrillingly fast-paced” (TIME) and “Supremely satisfying” (Houston Chronicle) | Led by Tobias Santelmann (Netflix’s Harry Hole) and Russell Tovey and winner of Best Screenplay at Series Mania, the timely dystopian drama series is set in an eerily familiar 2037, where Norway has chosen to sever all ties with the rest of the world and grapples with isolation, identity, and global instability. Trailer Stayer –  ‘Best New Shows’ Selection…“Outstanding Cast” (Time Magazine) and “Beautiful, deep, intense, and fabulous hour drama” (ABC22) | Led by Aksel Hennie (The Martian, Sisu) – who also directs – this high-end drama follows an aging rock musician forced to rebuild his life—and rediscover purpose in music and fatherhood—after a personal tragedy. Trailer The Architect – “Vicious and funny” (The New York Times) | Starring Eili Harboe (Succession’s final season), this innovative, short-form dramedy is a smart, satirical take on ambition and survival in a broken housing market—blending bleak humor with incisive social commentary. Trailer Furia, Seasons 1 & 2 – “Jaw-clenchingly suspenseful… gripping and unpredictable.” (Foreign Crime Drama) | A high-stakes political thriller exploring the rise of extremism in Europe, combining intimate character drama with urgent geopolitical tension. Trailer Fenris - “Thoroughly engrossing” (The Wall Street Journal) and “A rarely explored world… an exceptional series.” (MovieWeb) | Directed by Simen Alsvik (Lilyhammer), this tense, atmospheric mystery unfolds in a remote forest community, where disappearances may be tied to both human secrets and wolves in the wild. Trailer Liv Ullmann: A Road Less Traveled – “Pure pleasure” (The Wall Street Journal) | A Cannes-selected docuseries on Liv Ullmann, featuring interviews with Cate Blanchett, Jessica Chastain, and John Lithgow—offering an intimate, star-studded portrait of one of the greatest European actresses of all-time and a window into Norway’s rich artistic legacy. Trailer Together, these series exemplify how Norway is operating at a world-class level—expanding beyond traditional Nordic noir into bold, globally resonant storytelling. Screeners are readily available for all titles.    About Viaplay: The Viaplay streaming service features thousands of hours of premium Nordic and European series and films from Scandinavia's largest and most recognized television/streaming platform.
