Interview Opps: Members of Abortion Dream Team/Director/Writer
Though one in four pregnancies end in abortion globally and unsafe abortions lead to nearly 70,000 deaths per year, Poland has a near-total abortion law as the government treats the life of the fetus as more important than the life of a woman. Luckily, there is Abortion Dream Team – an informal group of four bold women who run a hotline supporting their sisters in need. They inform on how to perform self-managed abortions at home or direct them to clinics abroad. The Viaplay documentary Abortion Dream Team makes its exclusive debut in the U.S. on Thursday, April 10, 2025 and in the U.K. on Monday, April 21 on the Viaplay streaming service.
Working around the clock, these activists brag on TikTok about facilitating 100 abortions a day and shock people with the slogan "Abortion is OK!”. They gather a huge following empowering hundreds of thousands of women, while angering all conservatives and the government. This dangerous battle leads to a complete burnout of one team member and to the political prosecution of another, who is threatened with three years in prison. As the women reach their breaking point, will the mission and sisterhood of Abortion Dream Team survive? This heartfelt, intimate movie is about fighting, resistance and women's solidarity.
This riveting documentary follows the four main members of ADT on the frontlines at demonstrations, press conferences and committee meetings, behind the scenes at the office and at home: Justyna Wydrzyńska, a mother of 3 children who answers the Abortion Without Borders helpline; Natalia Broniarczyk, media contact and main spokesperson; Karolina Więckiewicz, legal activist; and Kinga Jelińska, the founder of the biggest organization providing abortions in Poland and is now based in the Netherlands. This film is timely as ever: as of February 2024, when the film was completed, the anti-abortion law hadn’t been changed, despite the victory of the new liberal government. The Abortion Dream Team remains in the news. In February 2025, the sentencing of one of the members featured in the documentary was overturned and she faces a new trial.
Abortion Dream Team was a nominee for Best Polish Film Award, Amnesty International Poland Award, Warsaw Documentary Award, Docs Against Gravity 2024. It was also voted Official Selection at We Can Be Heroes, Docs Against Gravity 2024, Equi Ecuadorian Feminist FF 2024, DocPoint Helsinki 2025 and Tempo DFF 2025.
Produced by Paprika Studios Poland and My Way Studios, Abortion Dream Team is directed by Karolina Lucyna Domagalska and Monika Kotecka. The scriptwriter is Karolina Lucyna Domagalska.
