In the vein of the Emmy-winning State of the Union, the character-driven, short-form drama series Scenes After a Marriage strips relationships down to their core, creating an intimate and emotionally charged chamber play. With just one location, two deeply complex characters, and dialogue that oscillates between sharp humor and raw emotion, it captures the universal struggles of love, loss, and the uncertainty of divorce. From acclaimed writer Veronica Zacco (The Bridge, Top Dog), and featuring a stellar cast led by Ardalan Esmaili (Lockerbie opposite Colin Firth, The Helicopter Heist) and Eva Röse (Maria Wern, Honour), Scenes After a Marriage begins its exclusive U.S. debut on the Nordic streaming service, Viaplay on Thursday, January 29, 2026 and on Viaplay U.K. beginning Monday, January 26, 2026, with two episodes at launch, then two episodes weekly through Feb. 19. The innovative series captures the heartbreak, humor, and unpredictability of relationships in a uniquely immersive format.
Lovis (Eva Röse) and Kian (Ardalan Esmaili) have recently separated. Each time they exchange custody of their children, they meet at a roadside restaurant near the bridge connecting Sweden and Denmark. Kian, still holding on to hope, asks Lovis to wait until Christmas, three months away, before signing the divorce papers. As the series unfolds through these brief encounters, both begin to reevaluate their choices, dreams, and feelings for each other. Is it too late for a second chance?
With masterful writing, world-class performances, and a strikingly simple yet powerful premise, it invites viewers to reflect on their own relationships, making it both deeply personal and universally relatable.
Drama/Romance, 8 x 17-19 mins episodes, Swedish with English subtitles
