SPOTLIGHT: COMEDY DRAMA
In the Name of Love – Darkly funny dramedy based on a shocking true story
Monday, September 8 (Episodes 1 & 2, two new episodes every Monday thru September 29) - Exclusive US Premiere
Based on the untold story of award-winning director Bård Breien’s (The Art of Negative Thinking) unconventional childhood, this bold, bittersweet and offbeat eight-part series follows the Bang family who built their fortune through underground porn in conservative 1970s Norway.
Blending coming-of-age drama, dark comedy, and emotional family reckoning, In the Name of Love charts the rise and fall of a family empire built on adult entertainment from the 1970s into the 1990s—through the VHS boom, censorship crackdowns, and shifting social norms. What unfolds is a sharp, emotional, and humor-filled true portrait of love, identity, and family myths unraveling in real time.
As the series kicks off in the 1990s, one of their sons, Balder, hopes for a peaceful family gathering at his daughter’s baptism—until his estranged father, Lars, arrives uninvited, dragging decades of buried secrets back into the open. What follows is a provocative, heartfelt journey through the past of two brothers – Balder and Bjørnar (their grownup roles played by real-life brothers Jakob and Jonas Oftebro) raised by two very different parents: Lars, a wealthy porn businessman who viewed eroticism as a political and social protest, and their mother, Anne-Lise, a discreet feminist and primary school teacher determined to keep the business a secret. The series also stars popular Norwegian actors Maria Bonnevie (Another Round) and Trond Espen Seim (Mammon).
(Viaplay Original Drama Series, 8 x 30 mins episodes, Norwegian with English subtitles)

Directed by Per Simonsson and named after their most popular song (Sommartider), the film follows the band’s rise to fame, beginning with the young Per Gessle’s passion and obsession for music, which leads him to bond with kindred spirits: musicians MP, Micke, Anders and Göran. When the small-town teenagers start jamming together, their ambitions and dreams of pop stardom are ignited. But despite a sickly father having no time for Per’s grandiose dreams and with constant jibes about his singing and getting a proper job, Per is even more determined to succeed and show them all he can achieve.
