Following a must-see August with new Nordic Noir Veronika (Aug 20, Trailer) and the return of the raw, character-driven drama Threesome, S2 (Aug 27, Trailer), Viaplay’s September slate features several exclusive US Premieres:

·        End of Summer (Sep 10) – Recently aired on the BBC, this absorbing Nordic noir is based on the award-winning crime novel by a former police officer about the haunting secrets behind a long-lost disappearance (Trailer)

SPOTLIGHT: NORDIC NOIR

End of Summer – Nordic Noir Based on Award-winning Crime Novel, Aired on BBC

Recently aired on the BBC, End of Summer is an absorbing Nordic noir based on the award-winning crime novel by former police officer Anders de la Motte. The stellar cast features Julia Ragnarsson (Midsommar, The Bridge) and Erik Enge (Tigers, Sandhamn Murders) as they unravel the haunting secrets behind a long-lost disappearance.

In the Swedish summer of the late 90s, 14-year-old Vera's refusal to let her little brother Billy accompany her results in his inexplicable disappearance. Two decades later, a hauntingly familiar young man brings Vera back to her childhood home, where she's driven to unravel the mystery of Billy's fate. The truth might fracture her world forever. In a diverse Swedish city, families, police and criminals are caught in a crossfire of loyalties, demands and guilt. Meanwhile, some young people are trying to find a way to a better life. Surrounding the adult criminals are the younger ones, the runners. They sell drugs and rig getaway mopeds, until one day they are forced to take on more dangerous missions with a mixture of fear and pride. This is their story. It is also the story of their families: wondering siblings and desperate parents struggling to keep their children on the straight and narrow. Gabriel has recently moved into the Ronna district of Södertälje., while teenager Marko deals drugs in the local area. Soon, the pair become immersed in a murky underworld of serious crime as unrest hits the city and debts owed by Gabriel’s family take their toll. Featuring an innovative, stylish way to create a biopic, the feature film has four pivotal chapters of Edvard Munch’s life, artist of the iconic painting “The Scream”, written by four different screenwriters and played by four different actors. From love to addiction, rejection to redemption, witness the untold journey of a tormented genius who defied convention and struggled to save his art from the clutches of history. Misunderstood by his peers, rejected by the art establishment, wracked with grief over the loss of his younger sister and tortured by addiction. This film takes the viewers through four important chapters of Munch’s life: the story of his first love; the controversy around one of his early exhibitions in Berlin; Munch’s admission to a psychiatric clinic, where he is forced to make the biggest decision of his life; and then finally, the artist’s battle at the end of his life to save his works from the Nazis.
