With young adult dramas continuing to be must-watch television this summer, please discover a leading producer of high quality European YA series with Viaplay, a streaming destination for bold, emotionally resonant young adult stories – tackling everything from cancer and LGBTQ+ identity to school violence,  intimacy and self-discovery.

This August, Viaplay premieres two of its latest series in this category: Live Life, Season 2 (Aug. 28 & Sep. 4) and the music-driven drama Solo (Aug. 24). Returning with more heart and hope, Live Life continues its moving portrayal of a young adult’s cancer survivor’s journey, a nominee for ‘Best Youth Drama’ at the Swedish Emmys (Season 1) and featuring guest star Sofia Helin (The Bridge). Meanwhile, Solo follows aspiring young musicians and dancers as they navigate talent, ambition, and distraction in Norway’s vibrant arts scene.

These new series join a lineup of powerful Viaplay originals and exclusives for young adult viewers, including: International Emmy winner One of the Boys, a poetic and honest coming-of-age LGBTQ+ drama from Denmark; The Architect, a short-form, near-future satire that critiques urban housing inequality and The New York Times called “vicious and funny”; and fan-favorites Threesome and Thunder in My Heart, two emotionally raw and authentic portraits of young adulthood, desire, and self-discovery. Also featured on the streaming service are Below, a moving drama about a young woman rebuilding her life and identity after a paralyzing accident; and Ida Takes Charge, a gripping psychological thriller based on Kjersti Halvorsen’s novel about a student whose fear of violence spirals into obsession.

August premieres on Viaplay:

Sunday, August 24

Solo (Miniseries, Young Adult)

With rivalries intensifying and passions flaring, these artists must find their place, voice, and purpose. The students at Create, the school of music, dance and drama in Lillehammer are all big dreamers. Some talk loud and proud about their dreams, while others barely dare to admit them to themselves. They all navigate through the everyday high school life, confronting stage fright and substance abuse, piecing together broken hearts with melodies, and trying to find their perfect pace in their adolescent years. (Trailer, 4 x 25’ episodes, Norwegian with English subtitles)
